Do you want to avoid getting cold during this winter season? Here we are suggesting some techniques that may help you to fight against the cold all season long. A true cold is harmless. But is quite similar to COVID-19. Because a runny nose and sore throat are not only very annoying but also can destroy your mental stability.

A family physician Adiba Khan said, “The common cold is a viral infection of your throat and nose, also known as your upper respiratory tract. Many types of viruses can cause the common, but the most common culprit is the rhinovirus.”

So, try to follow some rules to prevent colds so that you can enjoy something more fun for those sick days.

Set up the humidifier

Due to low humidity, your nasal passages can dry out easily. To prevent it you should eliminate the micro-bugs that settle in your sinuses. A humidifier can be an effective tool to keep a warm moist environment in your house. Physician Amber Tully said, “A humidifier may help to keep the mucous membranes moist. Dry mucous membranes in the nose inhibit your body’s ability to trap germs as they enter your system.”

Consume more vitamin D

Those who have vitamin D deficiency are more likely to get an upper respiratory infection which may cause cough or a stuffy nose. So, to prevent you from cold, it is wise to load up your diet full of vitamin D. That’s why physician Adiba Khan said, “Some studies have shown that supplementing with 400 international units of vitamin D per day may prevent respiratory infections.” The National Institute of Health (NIH) recommends taking at least 600 IUs of vitamin D per day. Beef, egg yolks, milk, and cheese are good sources of vitamin D.

Have sound sleep

Good quality of snooze can play an important role to prevent colds. A study found that people who have lacked proper sleep are more likely to come down with a cold. Experts recommend at least 7 to 9 hours of deep sleep per night. So, try to get plenty of sleep and decrease the chances of getting cold.

Wash your hands regularly

Washing your hands regularly and keeping them away from your eyes, nose, and mount are still important. A small study in 2008 found that the average frequency of touching face with hands is 16 per hour. So, Dr. Tully suggested, “This prevents germs on your hands from being transferred into your mucous membrane (nose and mouth) and getting you sick.”
