The mine’s history

The investigation and mapping of Adam’s team in the mine were very helpful but more information was needed when it came to the mine’s history and how all of this happened. Doug Huntrods, the emergency manager for Meade County where Blackhawk is located, tried to dig up the mine’s history.

Doug revealed in a press conference that the mine is owned by the Dakota Plaster Company. This made sense since gypsum is often used to create plaster. The Rapid City Journal also went through their archives and found an article covering the Dakota Plaster Plant’s opening in the area way back in 1910.
